New opportunities for women to prepare for careers
in booming resources industry!

The Queensland Government is pleased to invite Queensland women to register their interest for two new initiatives to prepare for careers in the resources industry.

The government is hosting the Work for Queensland Mining and Gas Jobs Expos and funding 500 training places through TAFE Institutes across Queensland, to upskill Queenslandjobseekers to work in the resources sector through the Resources 101 program.

With over38 000 construction and operation jobs expected to be created in the resources industry between now and 2014-2015, it’s time for Queensland women to get involved!

Work for Queensland Mining and Gas Jobs Expos
Industry employers, training providers and Skilling Solutions Queensland will be on hand at the Workfor Queensland Mining and Gas Jobs Expos to provide information on:

  • employment opportunities
  • pay, conditions and lifestyle
  • training options
  • free skills assessments
  • career advice.

Expos will be held in the following locations:

Gold Coast, Southport Community Centre, 19 October

Sunshine Coast, Caloundra Events Centre, 21 October

Fraser Coast, Brolga Theatre and Convention Centre, Maryborough, 28 October

Cairns, Cairns Convention Centre, Wednesday 2 November

Whitsundays, PCYC Airlie Beach, Friday 4 November.

Resources 101 training program
From October2011, the Resources 101 training program will be offered through TAFE Institutes to assist Queenslanders to develop skills to help them get jobs in the resources sector.

The training program includes generic safety induction and basic levelengineering training.
