Older Workers boosted by mature worker recruitment website

AUSTRALIA 18 June 2011. With 93% of respondents in a recent survey saying they had no faith that the Federal Government was doing anything to help them find employment, it is time for a “Mature Cure”!

In a recent survey by the peak jobs website for over 45’s, www.olderworkers.com.au, a staggering 93% of jobseekers said there was nothing in the Federal budget that would help them find work.

Co-founder of olderworkers, Shane Higgins said, “We used to talk about the” Brain Drain” from Australia but what we need right now is a “Mature Cure”.”

Mr Higgins explained, “Tapping into the wealth of experience and skills of over 45’s, by actively encouraging employers to seek older workers, and providing real financial incentives for businesses to retrain or invest in a mature –aged Australian, will see many of the problems industry has finding appropriate, dedicated, reliable workers solved – a near instant “Mature Cure”.

Mr Higgins’ observations were backed up by over 500 hundred mature jobseekers that completed the online survey.

When asked what the Federal Government could do to assist this “Mature Cure”, respondents overwhelmingly endorsed:

A national advertising campaign on the benefits of older workers (57%)

Incentives for employers to hire all older workers (85%)

More support for older jobseekers through specifically set-up organisations (63%)

Increased training specifically for older jobseekers (54%)

Recruitment agencies specifically for mature jobseekers (77%)

Mr Higgins continued, “Some forward thinking Australian organisations have already embraced the “Mature Cure”, including many small organisations and large national companies like Woolworths, Commonwealth Bank and many local and state government departments.”

“We have the human resources we need to end the skilled worker shortage right now”, said Mr Higgins, “but the Federal Government has to take the lead on this issue by initiating a “Mature Cure”, that is financially encouraging and intellectually challenging businesses to employ hard working Australians who are aged over 45.”
