Career Snapshots survey results – Older workers

The Career Development Association of Australia has released the results of a survey of their members’ views of perceived employer attitudes to older workers. The results of this survey provide an important snapshot of how this critical issue is viewed from the unique perspective of career professionals. The results showed:
  • 57.1% of respondents indicate that discrimination against older workers is very or extremely widespread and most (83.8%) believe that discriminatory attitudes of employers and other employees impede the employment of older workers
  • Most – 84% – believe older workers see themselves as being “locked into” their current employment situation
  • The top three factors that respondents indicate will encourage older workers to remain in the workforce are flexible hours (85.3%), supportive workplace culture (74.4%) and opportunities to mentor (69.7%)
