This program aims to provide young people and disadvantaged job seekers with an opportunity to join our team for 12 months, developing new skills and experience whilst gaining meaningful paid employment. Additionally, this program will include the completion of nationally recognised qualification.

About our Traineeship Opportunities

This year we are excited to be offering 12 opportunities across an array of areas within Moreton Bay Regional Council. We will be offering Administration Traineeships which will see you finish your 12 month program with qualifications in Business Administration, as well as Operations Traineeships, which will see you finish your 12 month program with qualifications in either Civil Construction or Horticulture.

Our Admin Trainees will be located at Strathpine.

Our Operational Trainees will be located at either our Caboolture, Margate or Petrie Depots.

Our Trainees are expected to commence in May 2021.

Administration Traineeship:

We welcome someone who has passion, initiative, drive and who is hungry to learn and willingness to complete a Traineeship in Certificate III of Business Administration within 12 months of commencing. In order to confidentially complete the Traineeship we’re looking for basic level and understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite. You will harness a team culture that embraces a positive work environment, shared goals and a willingness to provide quality customer service to the broader organisation. You will need to demonstrate your curiousness to learn and motivation to join our team during an exciting phase of growth for our region.

Opportunities for our Administration Traineeship will sit within the below teams:

Economic Development
Our Economic Development team are a part of the new direction for economic development of the Moreton Bay Region to drive a Bigger, Bolder, Brighter future for the local residents over the next 20 years. Moreton Bay Region boasts a regional economy of $17 billion and our Economic Development Team are behind our strategy set to grow this to $40 billion by 2041, with 16,000 new businesses and 100,000 new jobs!

Community Engagement
Our Community Engagement Team have embarked on an exciting journey leading community engagement across the Moreton Bay Region. This newly formed team of experts are working passionately to demonstrate Council’s commitment to diversity and inclusion and will ensure our priority of facilitating the implementation of strong and effective community engagement strategy.

Infrastructure Planning
Our Infrastructure Planning team are charged with the responsibility to produce and manage long-term planning, infrastructure network strategies, infrastructure network plans and schedules to support the delivery of Council’s trunk and major infrastructure programs and Local Government Infrastructure Plan.

Community Halls
Our Community Hall team sits within our dynamic Sports and Recreation department – who aims to build connected, creative, healthy and active local communities and enhance the lifestyle that residents of the Moreton Bay Region enjoy. This is achieved through the provision of support to community organisations; delivery of activities for residents; provision of community meeting and activity spaces; development of polices and plans; provision of early education services from Birralee Child Care Centre; and participation in Council’s response to, and recovery from disaster events

Executive Support
Passionate about supporting our Region and the Community, this team sits in our Governance and Executive Services department which forms part of the Finance and Corporate Service directorate. The Executive Support team focusses on ensuring each Councillor is adequately supported to fulfil their role not only from a legislative perspective but to effectively engage with the community.

Governance
Our Governance team also sits within the Governance and Executive Services department. The Governance team plays a central and coordinating role in Council, providing expert advice and administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer, elected members and the wider organisation on a range of legislative and integrity matters. The team is also responsible for leading the delivery of initiatives to support strong local governance and supports Council to deliver on each of the strategic priorities identified in the Corporate Plan in an ethical and efficient way.

Asset Maintenance
Our Asset Maintenance department is responsible for the maintenance and renewal of Council’s assets throughout the region. The areas of responsibility are primarily Roads and Drains, Parks, Cleansing, Construction, Fleet and Building and Facilities infrastructure. The Asset Maintenance department is one of the largest departments within Council, maintaining essential community infrastructure across the Moreton Bay region.

Operations Traineeship:

Love the outdoors and using your hands to create, work and produce outcomes? We have two Operations Trainee options – our Civil Construction Trainee which will see you finish your Certificate II in Civil Construction within 12 months of commencing, as well as our Horticulture Trainee which will see you finish your Certificate II in Parks and Gardens within 12 months of commencing. Your responsibilities will include undertaking the requirements of the training program whilst participating a range of construction and maintenance duties as directed or horticultural and general parks tasks. You will perform general labouring tasks, use and maintain plant and equipment, and maintain good working relations with team members and the public.
You will hold a current driver’s licence, either have or willing to obtain a Construction Induction Card and you will have the ability to undertake manual tasks in a safe manner and with minimal supervision, excellent interpersonal skills to be a positive member of the team, and a genuine interest to work and learn more about this field.

Opportunities for our Operations Traineeship will sit within the below teams:

Parks and Gardens
We have some of Queenslands BEST natural scapes, gardens and parks and we have an opportunity for you to take it all on within our Parks team. Our Parks team are accountable for the maintenance of our greenscapes and you’ll get to work with a great crew and have variety in your work – pruning, trimming, mowing, and general garden labouring activities.

Civil Construction
Our Civil Construction team undertake a range of duties on road and drainage works which may include levelling, pavement grade checking, basic concrete formwork/placement/finishing, signage and the laying of pipes and pits. Our team carry out labouring duties on civil construction and maintenance projects within our region.

About you

  • Able to meet citizen, residency and visa requirements to undertake a Traineeship.
