Private ADHD TitrationThere is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and an increased global demand. Our service is able to provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees include the cost of one prescription.TitrationA thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes an examination of your medical history as well as an assessment using the standard ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.Following your assessment you will be informed whether medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which can be scheduled in person by video link, in person or by telephone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you. This process can take several weeks and it involves gradually altering your child’s medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It’s not uncommon to have to titrate two or three medicines before determining the most effective one for your child’s ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents participate in the titration and keep an eye out for their child’s behavior so they can inform doctors whether the medication is working or causing adverse effects. If you decide to return to NHS treatment, you will receive a private prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation cost. You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual checks are also required.Follow-up appointmentsAfter the assessment is complete after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place via a zoom video call however in some instances it may be possible to have an audio-only consultation (again at an extra cost). We will then go over treatment options and decide on a bespoke, individualised ADHD medication adjustment. This will include a review and discussion of your dosage of medication and any side effects that you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 via telephone or video consultation. Medication costs are additional and are paid directly to the pharmacy. The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family history and the impact that your ADHD symptoms impact your life, including any issues with your relationships that you may be having or other mental health problems that you may be suffering from. This is due to the fact that ADHD is a genetic disorder and it is important that we assess any family history that could indicate whether you are at risk of developing the disorder. It is important that you are honest and transparent with the clinician during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential part of the process, as failing to do so could result in an incorrect diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication. If you have decided that you would like to be treated for your ADHD We will schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. If you’d like to start treatment right away it is possible to start treatment at the time of diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and what options you have.We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk to your GP prior to booking your private examination. Certain providers have different guidelines regarding whether or not they require a GP letter. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.MedicationMedication is an integral element of the process for many people who are seeking a private ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be extremely long and GPs may be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.Inquiring your GP to refer through Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry – UK and ADHD 360). You can select a provider who offers an assessment on your own and titration. This will help you reduce time and be more convenient, especially if you have a busy schedule. If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment, your chosen clinician will evaluate you and determine whether or not you need to be adjusted on your medication. You will be asked to fill out forms that differ by doctor but the most common ones are self-report forms and medical histories from childhood to adulthood. These forms will help your clinician determine if there are factors that could mean you shouldn’t take ADHD medication, in the event that they’ve been prescribed. If you are being titrated, the medication will consist of stimulants and nonstimulant medications. titration adhd adults will be thoroughly examined and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you. The titration process may be lengthy and may require some additional appointments before you’re able to stay on your dosage.Based on the type of medication you are taking, follow up appointments can be scheduled either monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician checking that you are taking the correct medication, noting any adverse effects you’ve experienced and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will also be required to undergo a regular health check that may include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual check-up.Some patients may be content with their medication and do not require discussing their titration in more detail. If you’re looking to discuss your titration or treatment plan further, it is possible that you will be referred back to the private doctor that performed your initial evaluation. In this scenario the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will be given via an individual prescription. This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
