Private ADHD TitrationThere is a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand. Our service is able to provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our fees for assessments include the cost of one prescription.TitrationA highly skilled consultant psychiatrist will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales. After your evaluation After your assessment, you will be informed whether medication is appropriate for your specific situation. This will happen at your follow up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by phone). Your doctor will explain what medication options are available and, if you choose to start on medication we will suggest titrating the dose to maximize the balance of benefits and side effects for you. This is a process which could take a few weeks and involves adjusting your child’s medication gradually until the proper balance is reached. It is not unusual to need to adjust two or three medicines before determining the most effective one for your child’s ADHD symptoms. It’s important for parents to participate in this titration process and keep an eye on their child’s behaviour so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing side effects. If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued a private prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You must keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes blood pressure and pulse measurements. Annual reviews are also required.Follow-up adhd prescribingAfter the evaluation is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with your psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted via zoom video call. In some instances, it could be possible for an audio-only consultation to be scheduled (again with an additional cost). We will then go over the options for treatment and then decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication titration. This will include an assessment of your medication dosage as well as a discussion of any possible side effects you might be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-toface sessions and PS60 via video or telephone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication. The psychiatrist will ask questions regarding your family history as well as the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any mental health issues you might be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD can be an inheritable condition, and it is essential to look into any family history that may indicate that you’re at risk of developing the disorder. It is essential that you are honest and truthful with your doctor during the assessment, since the information they gather will be used to determine if your ADHD fits the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential part of the process, as failing to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis, and thus an incorrect prescribing of medication. If you’ve decided you would like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists that specialize in this area. If you want to start treatment immediately you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and the options available to you.If you are unsure of which one you prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP before booking your private assessment as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require an GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them once you leave the clinic to get a prescriptions for medication.MedicationThe medication process is an essential part of the journey for many people who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. The process of getting a prescription from an NHS psychiatrist can be difficult and time-consuming. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.Requesting your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry – UK and ADHD 360). You can choose a service that offers an assessment on your own and the titration. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly when you are on a tight schedule. If you are recommended, your physician will examine your condition to determine if you need medication titration. You’ll need to complete forms that differ by provider however the most commonly used ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories dating back to childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any conditions that could mean you shouldn’t take ADHD medications if they’re prescribed. If you are being titrated the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. They will be carefully tested and monitored to determine the most suitable combination for you, taking into account any medical conditions you may have. The titration process can be long and could require several additional appointments before you are stable on your dosage. The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and quantity of medication you’re taking. They can be scheduled for monthly or quarterly. Your clinician will check whether you are safe with the medication, note any adverse reactions you’ve experienced, and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and routine health exam that includes pulse, blood pressure and weight measurements. Some people might be satisfied with their medication, and therefore do not have to discuss their titration process further. However, for those who require further discussions regarding the titration process and treatment plan, it’s possible to be passed back to the same private clinic that performed their initial assessment. If this happens, the titration appointment will be part of their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication through private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS, as the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
