The School Engagement Officer plays an important role in positioning QUT as a
university of choice for prospective students through dynamic presentations and high-quality
outreach to high schools and the general community.

The School Engagement Officer represents QUT at school visits, campus tours,
regional markets and recruitment events,providing course, admission and scholarship
information to a broad range of prospective students and their influencers.

Another key activity for the position is the administration and promotion of the START
QUT program, our university-wide accelerated learning program for Year 11 and 12 students.
This position is also responsible for writing news articles and email communications for
guidance officers.

The position reports to the Team Leader Student Recruitment for supervision, workload
management and for Performance Planning and Review (PPR). Day-to-day responsibilities
will be led by the School Engagement Coordinator.

Key responsibilities include:

conducting professional presentations to audiences including high school students,
parents, career practitioners and mature-age students

providing a high level of customer service to prospective students and their
influencers when responding to face-to-face or online enquiries, or participating in
recruitment activities and events

maintaining accurate knowledge of QUT course offerings, admission pathways,
services and enrichment opportunities to provide relevant and personalised advice to
future students

supporting the School Engagement Coordinator with administration and
promotion for the START QUT program including web page updates, Student and
Academic Management System (SAMS) reporting,

assist in organising information and orientation sessions, and communications to participants and their
schools

writing news articles for electronic direct mail (EDM) including coordination of QUT
News for guidance officers

providing supervisory support and advice to student ambassadors

contributing to the strategic and operational planning for the unit

compliance with health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work
practices.

To ensure job flexibility the successful
appointee may be required to:

perform any other duties as nominated by the University consistent with the relevant
classification descriptors detailed in the Enterprise Agreement. Staff undertaking
any new duties will receive training;

participate in job rotation or multiskilling in consultation with their supervisor;

work across campuses.

This appointment will be offered on an ongoing, full-time basis.

Selection Criteria

1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of
a degree, or completion of an associate diploma in conjunction with relevant work
related experience.

2. Demonstrated communication skills, in particular the ability to deliver presentations
to engage a wide variety of audiences and to provide one-on-one advice to clients.

3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate and communicate
effectively with colleagues, including within teams, internal and external clients,
suppliers and other staff within the University.

4. Demonstrated time management skills including the ability to prioritise tasks, work
under pressure to meet deadlines, and provide a professional service within a
busy customer oriented environment.

5. Demonstrated high-level written communication skills including the ability to
write engaging content for a range of audiences to achieve organisational goals.

Essential requirements:

Current ‘C’ class (car) driver’s license, the physical ability to carry boxes of approximately
10kg weight, the availability to attend out of hours activities, and an ability to spend periods
away from Brisbane

Remuneration and Benefits

The classification for this position is Higher Education Worker Level 5 (HEW5) which has
an annual remuneration range of $79,654 to$89,842 pa. This is inclusive of an annual
salary range of $67,883 to $76,566 pa and 17% superannuation.

In July 2020 QUT staff voted in favour of a variation to its Enterprise Agreements. The
variations were approved by the Fair Work Commission in August 2020.

The variation impacts leave loading (for new staff no loading will be paid or accrued during
the period the variation is in effect), salary increases (the salary increase which was due
to occur in the first full pay period of December 2020 has been deferred until the first full pay
period of December 2021) and superannuation (superannuation will be paid to staff as though
the salary increase which would have been paid in December 2020 has taken effect and,
subject to the rules of the superannuation fund, a defined benefit member will continue to make
contributions in alignment with the contributions made by the University). A link to the variation
