Local Area Coordinator Community Development – NDIS

The role
In this Community Development role, working in the Darwin Urban area, you will be responsible for assisting people with disability, their families, and their carers to build and pursue their goal for a good life, exercise choice and control, and engage with the National Disability Insurance Scheme – Partners in Community.

You will be responsible for:
• Gaining an understanding of systemic and individual issues for people with disability in the community
• Providing information to community and mainstream organisations on how to ‘build inclusive communities ‘enabling people with disability to gain the benefits of community membership
• Contributing to the planning, development, and implementation of community-based activities
• Building, recording, and maintaining a current working knowledge of local community supports and services
• Participating in local and regional forums and other information sharing activities

You are an approachable, positive, passionate and respectful person who can build and nurture relationships easily and confidently. Strong personal values based on empathy and compassion, you understand the diverse needs of individuals within your local community and can coach, counsel and connect people to identify and achieve the positive outcomes they desire.

You will have:
• Demonstrated relevant experience, lived experience and or relevant tertiary qualifications
• Knowledge of the local community and the available options for social & economic participation for people with disability
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to engage with external stakeholders to establish connections with the local communities
• Access to your own transport
• Currently hold or able to hold a Working with Children and or a Vulnerable People Check
