Liberty Primary Steel, a member of GFG Alliance, operates integrated steelworks which include ironmaking, steelmaking and rolling-mill facilities located in coastal Whyalla, approximately 400km from Adelaide.
Our Whyalla site are seeking school leavers and mature age applicants for Apprenticeships in various disciplines, joining the team with a start date of early 2021. These fixed term roles are an exciting opportunity to begin your career and gain exposure to one of Australia’s most unique steel making facilities. The disciplines available are:
- Mechanical Fitter
- Fabricator
- Electrical
- Instrumentation
- Machinist
- Refractory (Bricklaying)
Our apprentices tell us that it’s the balance between working and studying that will really give you the edge. When you’re not learning the technicalities of your trade at school or TAFE, you’ll be on site putting what you’ve learnt into practice with heavy machinery and equipment. You’ll have space to balance both study and work.
You’ll be challenged and stretched, but you’ll find it’s the best way to develop and learn. During the program, you’ll be able to draw upon the experience of your team and be mentored by experienced tradespersons and engineers to make sure your career starts in the best way.

You will be:
- Finishing year 12 at the end of this year or have completed schooling
- Whyalla based
- Safety focussed, team orientated and have good interpersonal skills;
