BEING older and wiser is valued by one Sydney company which employs mature age women, including 10 employees aged over 70.

With the prospect of the age pension being extended to 70, the company is a proud advocate of the benefits of older workers.

The company, called The Finishing Touch, has 190 staff in Sydney and Melbourne with the average age of their female workforce in their mid-50s including ten staff over 70 and many of their employees live on the lower north shore.

The company specialises in providing small teams to pack up and unpack households for removalists.

“We employ mature women to do this type of work as we find they are hard working, caring and very organised,’’ said owner Susan Williams.

“They are all super home organisers who have years of experience, expertise and training in how to set up kitchens, wardrobes, rooms and so on, in the most organised way.’’

“Our mature ladies have a strong work ethic and a no-nonsense approach to getting the job done,’’ she said.

Older workers bring experience, reliability, and a strong work ethic to the workplace.

Among the employees are Sue Campbell, 57, of Neutral Bay and Sue Van Twest, 55, of Lane Cove.

Mrs Campbell said that after raising her family and working for 15 years in the family’s mushroom farm, the job with The Finishing Touch appealed.

“After working with my family for 15 years, I just thought what can I do?

“I think older women are very calm, very organised and have huge work ethic – we’re always on time.’’

Mrs Campbell said she had packed up everything from emu eggs to antique clocks.

She said the job kept her fit, involved dealing with all different types of clients and homes all over Sydney.

“So many people work and don’t have time to pack up all their stuff when they move,’’ said Mrs Campbell.
